Sunday picnic

Perfect afternoon relaxing on the lawn and taking in the bay views with a picnic at OTG in the Presidio. This event had been on my list for a few weeks and trying Del Popolo even longer. Del Popolo is a mobile pizzeria, complete with a kitchen and Italian wood-fired oven, housed in a converted shipping container. They source ingredients from small generational producers and there seems to be great care in all they do.
Along with the impressive mobile pizzeria, there are other prepared food trucks, a metal red wagon with drink provisions for mixed to order bloody mary, mimosa, or a beer served in a bucket with ice. One of my favorite bits of this event would have to be seeing a few farms selling produce including Blue House Farm with their gorgeous produce below.

cool SF summer

warmed up at Off the Grid with laksa, a spicy Malaysian soup with hand pulled noodles, poached egg, and heaps of herbs, spices, and crunchy goodies from Azalina's. I found a new favorite sidewalk drawing of the Golden Gate Bridge nestled between the headlands and trees with a little sailboat cruising by.

summer tote

knowing that there would be great music and loads of delicious fried food at the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival I decided to take a long walk there and back to justify the gluttony. Hello, turkey corn dog. Walking along a street I usually drive I was able to stop and take in these lovely Victorian homes and was sure that if I stayed long enough I might here secrets of the passed whispered. I stopped at the market to stock up on frozen raspberries for a tart I wanted to make and finally had an excuse to buy a thermal tote bag. Hooray! I think it's adorable and it worked like a champ to keep the berries frozen on the walk home and all for $1.49.

frozen sunset

another Friday night at the street food market with a mango and sticky rice popsicle in one hand and a pork belly bun with turmeric pickled daikon in the other. Came across this impressive white picket  fence on the walk home.

here, fishy fishy fishy

shrimp and snapper tostadas de ceviche with avocado, lime mayo, and tapatio salsa and on the right is a beer battered fish taco with a thick layer of avocado mayo, salsa and cabbage from Primavera at the Saturday Ferry Building Market. The foggy sky made the chamomile blossoms and dark figs pop

nom nom nom

another Friday night at the food cart roundup. It's still been on the cooler side, but that didn't keep us away from all the tasty food and Golden Gate views. I'm hooked on the pork belly with turmeric pickled daikon, and green shiso on a steamed bun from The Chairman. I decided to go ahead and try the coca-cola braised pork with cabbage, mustard seeds, and kewpie mayo (on the left). So GOOD!  Cold weather never slows the long lines at a few favorite ice cream shops and the same is true for this beloved popsicle shop named Fat Face with a little pink pink logo. Well, this avocado and kefir lime pop is one of the best... and a huge reason I invested in an ice cream machine. I have fond memories of eating a few of these over a short visit to Sacramento last summer (where Fat Face is based) while visiting with Portland friends, Emily and Adam, that came down on a summer road trip to see Emily's dreamy embroidered art show that was up in Sac town. They are both incredible artists and wildly inspiring and kind people, their websites are linked above. Chowing on these pops lets me relive a little of that summer again with some of the best food, cooling off at the river, thrift stores scavenging and the best company of course. :)

belly love

Another beautiful Friday night at Off the Grid: Fort Mason with a new favorite from The Chairman Truck. I'd heard rave reviews about this traditional Taiwanese snack. I ordered the tender pork belly with turmeric pickled daikon and green shiso on a steamed bun... it was incredible.

never ending summer

I came across the ice rink in front of the SF Ferry Building and felt a little seasonally confused as it was still warm and I was standing on electric green astroturf. Astroturf is a little swatch of never ending summer.
Today was the day (after years of wanting) that I ate spinning (rotisserie) chicken and potatoes for breakfast. There is always a long line, actually the longest line at the market is always cued in front of this stand and just a few weeks ago I learned that the long line is for sandwiches only and there's a small sign by the second register where you can order chicken and potatoes only with about 5 people or less in line. The chicken was amazing and the potatoes were covered in chicken drippings, as they cook below the chicken and then sprinkled with coarse sea salt and a topped with a lime wedge, yum. Scream  sorbet was at the market and I couldn't resist a small scoop of pistachio sorbet. A morning full of green.

The farmers market was bustling with people eager to pick up Fall treats, like chestnuts and stocking up early for Thanksgiving provisions. I did a little window shopping at Boulettes Larder where I spied this apple gallette and lemon meringue pie.
